The proposed research will focus on studying the flight delays in the terminal area, i.e., the terminal
delay. Actual air transportation data pertaining to the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)
will be used in the preliminary data analytics study to ensure an efficient optimization problem
formulation that is relevant to the local situation. Strategies to minimize terminal delays will be
explored through route coordination and optimization approaches, drawing inspiration from similar
work performed by some of our team members on ground transportation.
